Juvenile Home

Welcome to the project newsletter for the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home project! An updated newsletter is published on a monthly basis in an effort to keep the community and neighborhood surrounding the project abreast of construction activity and important project updates.
Construction activity has progressed well through the month of January. The exterior finishes have been slowed slightly due to weather conditions and extreme cold, however, schedule adjustments and coordination has been made to ensure fast prompt completion efforts as the weather breaks. Interior Unit A finishes are underway which includes ceramic tile flooring and ceiling grid. CSM intends to start pre-punchlist efforts in Unit A the first weeks in February. Finish painting, ceiling grid installations, and ceramic flooring took place in Unit B through the month of January. The kitchen tile was laid so kitchen equipment installations could take place in February. The overhead rough-in process in the gymnasium also took place in the later days of January and the process will carry through the month of February. In Unit C, the main focus through January was laying interior masonry partition walls and overhead rough in of mechanical and electrical systems. All interior flatwork including the stage was completed as well. The painting crews will be ready to enter Unit C through the first weeks of February. Exterior brick was installed as weather permitted and the siding contractor progressed relatively well despite the cold temperatures.
The system verification process is underway. System verification is the process of making sure all mechanical and electrical systems in the new facility operate and function per the design specifications and that all KCJH staff have the proper training to run them. Routine field inspections are done on 2 week intervals and as needed to monitor the system installations. All deficiencies as noted in these inspections are logged in as an issue in the CSM project data base Constructware engine. System Verification coordination meetings are held every two weeks to help schedule and identify responsibility for various phases of the system verification process.
The project webcam will be available through the remainder of the project for review of construction activity underway.
